About

Theisen Securities Limited (Theisen) initially undertook loan arranging work and provided corporate finance advice to major shipping and offshore drilling clients in Scandinavia, Europe, Russia and the Middle East. This work continues today with an emphasis on strategic financial planning and modelling, information memorandums and investment prospectuses to assist clients in raising debt and equity capital.

In 2000 the company developed a database (ShipData) to record on a consistent basis historical ship time charter rates, operating costs, new building and second hand prices at age specific anchor points for all major vessel subtypes on a quarterly basis back to 1980. The database continues to grow and is now maintained on a monthly basis for most vessel subtypes and on a quarterly basis for other more specialised vessels where infrequent market data is available.

In 2002 Theisen, under the name Theisen Risk, started to provide banks with shipping credit risk stochastic modelling and advisory services. In 2004 Theisen Risk launched ShipTransactor, its own shipping credit risk model and assessment system that was integrated with Theisen’s ShipData. The system has the ability to accurately assess probability of default (PD) and loss given default (LGD) that is compliant with the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) Basel II/III Advanced IRB approach and has been approved by several European bank regulators. The system can also assess other risk components of shipping projects and companies that can provide lenders and investors with a competitive insight and business advantage.

In 2008 a sister model, ShipPredictor, was launched providing vessel earnings and values forecasts at required confidence intervals. In 2012 Ship Price Indicator (SPI), Theisen Risk’s online vessel valuation tool was launched providing users with indicative vessel prices, price trends and volatility data.

In 2014 Box Transactor, Theisen’s credit risk assessment model for containership box leasing was developed and launched.
