Analysis of SPI Price vs Market Observed Price

Analysis between 01.01.2010 and 01.06.2016

Price accuracy is assessed as the difference between the SPI price and the price that vessels are sold at in the market. This is expressed as the % of prices (as % of sales) within certain accuracy ranges and in chart format.

Q: How do I activate my SPI account?

A: Once you have filled in the registration form an email will be sent to you with a link to activate your account.

Q: How do I activate my Free Trial?

A: Once you have registered and activated your SPI account, please allow 24 hours for your free trial to be activated.

Q: How do I add more SPI Credit to my account?

A: Go to your account page click Buy in the price list table. An invoice will be generated and sent to you by email. Once the invoice has been paid, the SPI Credit will be added to your account.

Q: What types of ship are covered in SPI?

A: Any Dry Bulk Carrier, Oil Tanker or Container Ship. Select the sub-type, enter the capacity in DWT or TEU, provide an age and Ship Price Indicator will generate a report.

Q: What is the SPI Price?

A: The Theisen expected price for a generic ship based on key driver correlations in history including earnings, newbuilding price, forward cover, exchange rate and steel price.

Q: What is the Market Price?

A: The monthly average price observed in the market.

Q: What is the Auction Price?

A: The percentage increase or decrease in the SPI Price over the last month and year.

Q: What is the Mean?

A: The average observed market price over the last 5 and 10 years.

Q: What is the Volatility?

A: The variation in historical percentage change in price.

Q: What is the SPI Forecast?

A: Theisen's predicted future ship price over a 5 year horizon using the Theisen adjusted mean reverting and correlation process.

Q: What Historical data is used?

A: SPI uses 10 years of historical prices, earnings, exchange rates and steel prices.

Q: What are the Reported Sales?

A: Each SPI price report contains a list of comparative ship sales. SPI holds over 12,000 reported sales covering the last 7 years.

Q: How do I get a new SPI Price Report?

A: Click the New Report button at the bottom of the report.

Q: How do I print the SPI report?

A: Click the print icon at the top right of the report.
